I struggle on what to read next
I discovered Leigh Bardugo from this post on Brandon Sanderson’s webpage. Sanderson’s enthusiasm made me curious about her worldbuilding and magic system.
The magic system is very good, and the worldbuilding if also fine. But after reading Shadow and Bone and about 30% of Siege and Storm I’m dropping the Grishaverse series. The character’s are weak. I’m tired of Alina’s insecurities, Mel’s pathetic character, and the detailed narration of trivial things that don’t make the plot move forward. Maybe it’s just not my kind of book. Maybe Brandon Sanderson has spoiled me.
I’m waiting for Sanderson to publish his next book. Or for the second book of James S.A. Corey’s Captive’s War, for Richard Osman We Solve Murders or The Thursday Murder Club, or the next book J.K. Rowling in the Cormoran Strike series. Meanwhile, I’ll go back to Ursula K. Le Guin: The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed.
